Wheel Choices for Ironman Courses

When it comes to improving your bike split in an Ironman or Ironman 70.3 event, your first priority needs to be your fit on the bike. The longer you can stay in an aero position (stretched out on your aero bars), the better off you will be. Once you’ve got your bike position dialed in, though, your next most important aerodynamic purchase will be a set of aero race wheels. Estimates are that a set of race wheels will shave 1.5 to 2 percent off your total time. Over the course of a six-hour bike split at an Ironman race, that adds up to between five and seven minutes (5:24 to 7:12).
