USA Cycling announces creation of women’s pro team structure

LEG LUBE: USA Cycling on Tuesday announced the creation of a formal women’s professional team structure for the 2013 national calendar. This groundbreaking initiative gives women racers the opportunity to compete in the Volkswagen USA Cycling Professional Road & Time Trial National Championships, May 25-27, in Chattanooga, Tenn., on the same weekend as the men pro racers and with equal prize money. In order to race at the national championships in Chattanooga, female riders must be a member of a registered UCI or domestic elite team and a category 1 or 2. Women who raced at the 2012 USA Cycling Road National Championships in Augusta, Ga., are automatically eligible to race in Chattanooga as long as their team is registered with USA Cycling as a domestic elite team.
