LEG LUBE: It was a cool, crisp morning in Sonoma County as athletes prepared for the 2012 Vineman Ironman 70.3. A blanket of fog enveloped the Russian River Region, promising a comfortable start to the day for those in the earlier waves. The water temperature was a cool 71 degrees — well within USAT regulations for the use of wetsuits.

Boulder Based Greg Bennett, one of the sport’s favorite athletes, brought home a win of 3:45:49–well on his way to setting a new course record. 2009 Vineman champion Joe Gambles made a huge charge on the run and pulled out a second-place result. Paul Matthews, having faded a little on the run, crossed the line in third.
